Makeup Artist to Katy Perry and Selena Gomez Dies at 37
Jake Bailey, a beloved makeup artist to some of Hollywood’s biggest names including Katy Perry and Selena Gomez, has died at 37, Pret-a-Reporter has confirmed. TMZ first reported that he was found dead in his home after an apparent suicide in L.A.
Bailey’s rep issued the below statement:
It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Jake Bailey’s passing. He was an undeniable talent, a great friend, a loving son and brother, and our grief is shared with all those whose lives he’s touched.
As one of the industry’s most sought-after makeup artists, Jake worked with an incredible client roster and his work has been featured in publications such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue Italia, Vanity Fair, and Allure. He collaborated with some of the top photographers in the fashion and entertainment industries and was also a passionate photographer himself. Jake was a mentor to many, and his work will continue to inspire. He will be truly missed by those who knew him.

According to TMZ, law enforcement said that Bailey was found by his assistant, who contacted the police, on Friday morning. It appears that “he succumbed to carbon monoxide.”
He posted his last Instagram on Thursday evening, in which he’s seen giving a small grin and wearing a blue Hawaii tee. Many of his followers are sending their condolences (“we’ll miss u,” one user commented), while others are left in shock (“Omg, I can’t believe it,” said another).
Shameless star Emmy Rossum took to Twitter to grieve the loss of her friend, sharing that she had just spent time with him on Sunday.

Paris Hilton posted on Instagram, sharing that Bailey “was such an amazing person, an incredibly talented makeup artIst & friend. He was my makeup artist for the past 15 years.” She added: “My thoughts & prayers go out to all his family & loved ones. Heaven has a new angel.”
Bailey’s most recent work included Gomez’s Wonderland cover and Perry’s Vogue Japan cover. He also did Gomez’s makeup for her recent Billboard cover.
